Grand Hotel is an exceptional summer vacation spot for families, many of whom visit the hotel year after year. Thanks to the array of activities available at the hotel and throughout Mackinac Island, Travel+Leisure Family magazine has named Grand Hotel as one of the 50 best family-friendly resorts in North America. From the Esther Williams Swimming Pool to biking to horseback riding, Grand Hotel offers fun things to do for kids of all ages.

Children’s rates include the same meal plan as the accompanying adult.

  • 6 – 17 years: $70.00 per night
  • 18 years and over: $149.00 per night

Family Added Value Days

Every day at Grand Hotel is family friendly, but during July and August families can take advantage of Family Added Value Days, where additional activities and package rates are available.

Things to Do at Grand Hotel and on Mackinac Island

If you’re coming to Mackinac Island with kids — and you’re looking for some recommendations — here are a few of our favorite family-friendly things to do.

Biking

Biking

Rent a bike from the pool house and ride around the perimeter of Mackinac Island, or be adventurous through over 70 miles of paved and unpaved paths on Mackinac Island.

Chess Anyone?

Located at the east end of the Grand Hotel porch, you will find a chessboard. Pick your partner and make for a memorable match. A game room with a variety of coin-operated games is located in T. Richards on the lobby level.

Fort Mackinac

Fort Mackinac is a National Historic Landmark and the sentinel of the Straits of Mackinac. There are also many historical sites around Mackinac Island that should not be missed.

Grand Hotel Stables

Open to the public daily, Grand Hotel’s horse stable is located at Surrey Hills, just across from Wings of Mackinac Butterfly Conservatory. At 8,700 square feet, it’s a great way to see rare Hackney horses up close, along with 20 antique carriages from both Grand Hotel and Mackinac Island Carriage Tours.

Lawn Games

Croquet, bocce ball, and bean bag toss can be enjoyed in the beautiful surroundings of the Grand Hotel gardens, adjacent to the swimming pool.

Swimming

The Esther Williams Swimming Pool is heated from around Memorial Day to Labor Day. Spend the day with your family in a private Cabana, enjoy lunch from the Esther Williams Pool Bar, and slide down our new waterslide!
